Why Taking Deposits on Service Jobs Just Makes Sense
Let’s say a customer walks into your store holding a worn-down necklace that needs repairing. She’s kind, enthusiastic, and wants it done ASAP. You take the piece, create the service job, and say you’ll call her when it’s ready.
But three days later, she ghosts you.
Now you're stuck holding onto the item, having spent time and possibly materials with nothing to show for it.
It happens more often than most store owners admit... and it’s why adding a deposit at the start of a job can save you major headaches down the line.
Why Deposits Matter More Than You Think
A deposit isn’t just a payment—it’s a signal. It tells you the customer is serious. It gives you coverage in case things don’t go as planned. And it keeps your cash flow moving on jobs that can take days—or even weeks—to complete.
Think about it: Whether it’s a $1,500 product build, a high-priority repair, or a multi-month layaway plan, you’re investing your time and resources before the customer walks back in. A deposit helps balance that equation.
To Add a Deposit, simply:
-Fill out the job details as usual.
-After adding the job to be repaired/built in the cart, you’ll see this option available in the cart section under the product.
-Enter the agreed-upon deposit amount. The deposit will be displayed in the cart and automatically calculated as part of the total during checkout.
-It will appear in the Payments section and will automatically be applied to the final balance once the job is completed.
